Don’t Think I’ve Forgotten
As I mentioned in my previous post, I spend a lot of time writing difficult prose about difficult subjects. That’s why it is occasionally such a joy to write about something like the new (currently in production) movie, Don’t Think I’ve Forgotten: Cambodia’s Lost Rock and Roll, about Cambodia’s thriving and wonderful rock scene from the period before the civil war began. I doubt there will be much in the way of introspective examination of the sort of economic inequities that made such a dionysian culture possible in a city surrounded by increasing desperation and poverty, but the music will astound anyone who sees it. It is, in fact, some of the best rock music ever made. And I’m looking forward to seeing the movie.
And that’s enough. Most pleasures are best enjoyed privately.
