Cambodian May Day

Almost as sad as the US government’s response to May Day is Cambodia’s. But at least there the government is taking the appropriate attitude towards workers, seeing them as the threat they really are (there’s a funny joke in there. See it?). So, on a day when not a single Cambodian worker marched (it would have been like begging a sadist to ‘really, really hurt me!’), the government floods its streets with riot police armed with assault rifles, grenades, electric batons, and teargas. Sheesh. Meanwhile, Amnesty International has used May Day to remember Hy Vuthy, murdered recently in Cambodia while organizing the Suntex Garment Factory.
